Happy Holi

What is Holi?

‘Holi-The Festival of Colors’ the most significant and joyous Hindu Festival, mainly observed in India on a large-scale with all the zest and zeal. Holi 2021 Date is Monday, March 29. At this event, people usually dress white and smear each other with bold beautiful colors called Holi Powder. The signature dish on this occasion is Gujiya: a crispy, flaky pastry with sweet stuffing inside, similar to empanadas. Bhang is also an integral element to be served on this event. People wish Happy Holi to each other by saying “Bura na mano Holi hai ( Don’t mind anything or anyone, It’s Holi)”.

What is Holika Dahan?

People have a huge community bonfire that is known as “Holika Dahan” on the night before Holi. On the occasion of Holika Dahan, Hindus burn the statue of the wicked Holika. They dance around the blazing fire and perform the Holi Puja to be freed from all the wickedness and evil for the next whole year. It shows the conquest of virtue over vice.

What is Holi Festival? Why is Holi Celebrated?

As per Hindu Religious Scholars and legends, once there was a rogue king named “Hiraniyakashipu” who couldn’t be stopped or killed by anyone and claimed himself a god. He ordered people to worship him rather than Lord Vishnu. The son of Hiraniyakashipu- the wicked demon denied it and stayed devoted to Vishnu. So Hiraniyakashipu decided to kill his own son in his anger and rage, with the assistance of his sister Holika.

Holika had a miraculous cloak that would protect anyone from fire. She enticed Prahlada into a huge fire and wrapped herself with the divine shawl. As the fire flashed the cloak flew from Holika and wrapped the believer of Vishnu Prahlada. Holika was charred to death and in commemoration of this incident, Holika Dahan started. And to celebrate that victory, Holi is observed with all the colors and joy.

We wish you a Merry Christmas

we wish you a merry christmas

This Christmas, it is not easier to make most of the preparations. But earlier than saying, “Bah, humbug,” and trying to move fast towards the upcoming year, check out some methods to experience unique fun during these holidays. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, you may not be able to celebrate Christmas as people usually do, but there are still very creative and fun methods to enjoy this celebration and you can also get involved with your own ideas.

Look into these methods to make most of this Christmas, even though limitations due to COVID-19 mean that you may be able to go too close with your family and friends.

Line up the fun activities that you like most

See what activities have the key spirit of this event, so manage them at first. Even though you are not fully familiar with them, you may arrange the Christmas decorations, if you prefer it, or bake the special Christmas cookies you like.

Do the shopping of gifts earlier

Normally, people do online shopping and do not want to visit stores. For this reason, the shipping companies are full of shipping orders this season—so you should shop and send the gifts earliest to make sure that they reach the destination on time. Keep checking the closing dates of shipping companies.

Trim the bushes and trees outdoor

Since people decorate outdoor areas with LED lights more than this time of the year, you also check out your outdoor area to see how to make most of the outdoor decorations. Trim the bushes and trees in your outdoor or indoor garden and arrange the Christmas lightings.  Possibly Santa may surprise you in the morning with some outdoor gifts.

Make special memories

Certainly, you and other members of the house may get tired due to Christmas preparations, but find good ways to help them during these holidays. Make a schedule of fun daily activities to perform among family and friends. The Christmas fun activities should not include more tiring things to do—you can just arrange a party of hot cocoa wearing Santa clothes or watch your favorite Christmas movie together—this way, it will make your holiday season cheerful.

Find safe ways to spend most of your time with family and friends

For the safety of your loved ones from coronavirus infection, follow the recommended SOPs and do not arrange indoor parties. No matter, in what part of the country you live, make your all indoor and outdoor activities memorable and full of fun.

When meeting other people outdoor physically, visit outdoor in the daytime when it is easier to move outside. Consider safe distance in any outdoor activity. In addition, take and serve hot drinks to others to help them keep warm. Exchange the Santa and other Christmas gifts at the outdoor table; for an ugly sweater contest, plan working steps so you can display your creativity.

During your fun Christmas activities, you also need some special words to say “we wish you a Merry Christmas”. You can write these quotes on Christmas cards and attach them to the gifts.

We wish you a Merry Christmas

“We Wish You a Merry Christmas” is a very famous carol to celebrate the Christmas festival.

This Christmas carol was composed by Arthur Warrell (1883-1939). He was a professor, music composer, performer and organist at the University of Bristol. The first time, he composed this song to perform in a concert on 6 Dec. 1935. In the same year, his composition was also published by Oxford University Press.

The traditional version is as follows:

“We wish you a Merry Christmas.
We wish you a Merry Christmas.
We wish you a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year.”

“Happy holidays to you,
your family, your friends.
Happy holidays, Merry Christmas,
and a Happy New Year.”

“Let’s clap.
We all do a little clapping.
We all do a little clapping.
We all do a little clapping.
Christmas is here.”

“Let’s jump.
We all do a little jumping.
We all do a little jumping.
We all do a little jumping.
Christmas is here.”

“Let’s stomp.
We all do a little stomping.
We all do a little stomping.
We all do a little stomping.
Christmas is here.”

“Shhh…let’s whisper.
We all do a little whispering.
We all do a little whispering.
We all do a little whispering.
Christmas is here.”

“Big voices!
We wish you a Merry Christmas.
We wish you a Merry Christmas.
We wish you a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year.”

Merry Christmas 2021

Merry christmas 2021

The world is waiting for the Christmas event in 2021. During this wait, people would like to know many general and essential aspects related to Christmas and New Year’s Eve. That’s why we are going to provide very basic and essential knowledge about Christmas and New Year’s Eve. I hope, you will enjoy and this post. Keep up reading Merry Christmas.

What is Christmas

Christmas festival is to celebrate Jesus’ birth day. The term of Christmas is made of “mass on the day of Christ”) and it relates to recent language origin. Before, this festival was known as “Yule”. This term is considered to be taken from the Anglo-Saxon geōl or the Germanic jōl that mentioned the moment of the winter solstice (December 22) when the sun is at its most southern side. The equivalent terms for “Christmas” in different languages are Navidad (Spanish), Natale (Italian), Noël (French), and all terms most likely mean nativity. The German term Weihnachten means “hallowed night.” From the start of the 20th century, this festival has also been celebrated as an irreligious family event, experienced by both the Christians and other religious communities, lacking Christian religious elements, and known by a progressively more give-and-take of gifts. In this non-religious festival, an imaginary personality named Santa Claus plays an essential role. This year, the date for the Christmas festival is Saturday, December 25, 2021.

Christmas Day

Since the early times, the Christian scholars have had different beliefs about the birth day of Jesus and the liturgical festival. One day for Jesus’ birth day is not decided quickly but it is the result of many regular developments. Specifically, since the first two 100s periods of Christianity, the religious scholars had strong opposition about the birth date of Jesus. Many Church Fathers marked sarcastic remarks about the ethnic practices of celebrating Jesus’ birthday when, actually, the group of martyrs and saints should be honored on the day of their holy execution—their right “birthday,” according to the church.

The exact origin of allocating 25 Dec. as Jesus’ birth date is not clear. Any authentication does not provide any clue by the way. 25 Dec. was first recognized as Jesus’ birth date in 221by Sextus Julius Africanus and since then, it is accepted universally. A well-known justification of the source of this birth date is that 25 Dec. was manifesting the spirit of Jesus Christ as the unconquered sun birth date and a well-celebrated event in Roman Empire. On this day, they celebrated the reappearance of the sun, known as the winter solstice, moving the winter out and the indication of the arrival of spring and then summer. Definitely, after 25 Dec. became generally accepted as the Jesus’ birth day, many Christian scholars often created the link between the birth of Jesus and the sun. The main problem with this opinion is that it shows a casual preference regarding the Christian churches to allow an ethnic event while the old churches were so determined on differentiating themselves definitely from ethnic practices and beliefs.

Another opinion shows that 25 Dec. became Jesus’ birth date due to theoretical reasons that recognized the spring (March) equinox as the world creation date and the fourth creation day, the time when the first light appeared, as Jesus’ beginning (i.e., March 25). The 25 Dec., after 9 months, was Jesus’ birthday. Since the old times, the festival of Jesus Christ’s birth was celebrated in combination with his sacrament, 6 Jan.

Christmas started to be commonly established with a particular Holy Sacrament in the 9th century but didn’t achieve the significance of Easter or Good Friday in accordance with liturgy, the other two main Christian festivals. The first Christmas is celebrated at midnight by Roman Catholic churches, and the Christmas candlelight is arranged from the evening of 24 Dec. by Protestant churches. A particular practice of “lessons and religious songs” interlinks Christmas songs with Bible verses narrating Birth history from the Garden of Eden to the birth of Christ. This practice, inducted by E.W. Benson and held at the University of Cambridge, is widely well-known now.

New Years Eve

People all over the world have been enjoyed the arrival of new-year for four spans of 1000 years. Currently, most New Year’s events start on 21 Dec. (New Year’s Eve), the last Gregorian calendar’ day and the celebration continues till the initial hours of 1st Jan. (New Year’s Day). General practices include holding parties, making special dishes regarding New Year, making determinations for the new coming year and enjoying official firework practices.

In some regions of the world, New Year’s festivities start on the night of 31 Dec.—New Year’s Eve—and it continues till the initial hours of 1st Jan. People often have fun with great meals believed to say New Year’s good luck. In Spanish-speaking regions, people eat a large number of grapes, indicating their expectations for the New Year. In some regions of the world, general New Year’s serving dishes include legumes that look alike coins and represent future economic success; for example, cowpeas in the south United States and lentils in Italy. Since a pig represents progress and richness in certain cultures, pig meat is a special dish on New Year’s Eve in Hungary, Austria, Cuba, Portugal, etc. Ring-type cake and pastry represent a full circle of the New Year in Greece, Mexico, Netherlands, etc. Similarly, the rice pudding with almonds inside is offered on New Year; finding the nuts represents the good fortune in New Year.

Other practices, which are very wide spread all over the world are enjoying official and private fireworks and singing New Year songs-Auld Lang Syne-a very well-known song. The New Year’s resolutions are considered to follow the traditions of the ancient Babylonian, who promised to earn God’s favor and decided to start the coming year with the right path.

How Christmas is celebrated

In Christmas Eve, you can expect knocking at your door. In the United States, at your doorstep, there may be some people to sing and play Christmas songs. In Argentina, there may be your neighbors, friends, or relatives at the door-step to exchange sweet gifts and some fireworks. In Newfoundland, possibly, there are your friends in different costumes performing comedy until you recognize who they’re.

Christmas, an annual festival that memorializes Jesus Christ’ birth, is welcomed in different ways in countries all over the world, even regions with only a few Christian populations. The celebration of Christmas is a routine all over the world, for example, India has only a 3% Christian population, but still, there are fixed national holidays for Christmas. There is just 1% Christian population in Japan, but people in Santa costume and Christmas musical activities are held in all shopping centers. In the United States, every person spends over $1,000 at Christmas.

The Christmas festival frequently includes local flairs according to local traditions. In Bethlehem, Jesus’ place of birth, Christians demonstrate birth scenes and signs of crosses. On Christmas, they come to churches to see an annual demonstration. In Syria, kids wait for presentations from the youngest male camels rather than Santa. Italy has also a special jolly fat-man. Befana, the Italian magician, delivers presentations to good kids but captures trouble-makers. In all countries, Christmas dishes have the key importance in this event. In Ukraine, aspirational feasters eat 12 courses of the meal—one for each winner. In Japan, people visit the KFC (fast-food center) to enjoy Christmas food. In Poland, carp is included in dinner kept in the bath-tub for the time before its presentation on plates. After that, generally, its scales are preserved for good luck all over the coming year.

halloween pun

Halloween is a public holiday in the USA and in many countries in the world. It’s celebrated on 31st October every year. The year 2021, it’ll happen on Sunday. This social event is linked back with the old Celtic anniversary of Samhain. In that Halloween Puns event, people used to fire up the bones and wear unusual clothes to protect against ghosts.

In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III nominated 1st November to show respect towards all saints. After some years, the event of 1st November got some features from Samhain. In the early beginning, it was called All Hallows Eve, but with civilization development, it changed to Halloween.

As the time passed, Halloween day included many other activities such as trick or treat, pumpkin lanterns, party gatherings, scary costumes and eating parties.

Complete History of Halloween Day

Halloween is rooted back to the Samhain festival celebrated in the Celtic region. It was the time back to 2,000 years from today and the Celtic region included UK, Ireland and France. This event was celebrated on 1st November.

This time was the end of the harvest season, the summer and it was the start of the winter season. The cold weather was a sign of death. The Celtic people had the idea that the boundary between life and death was faint.

On 31th October night, they performed special activities to celebrate the festival of Samhain due to the arrival of dead people’s ghosts, they believed.

They had different beliefs due to the arrival of dead people’s spirits such as, they harm their crops and they help the priests to predict the future. These predictions were very important for them to pass the hard winter season with ease.

At the start of this festival, people created a big fire to burn their animals and crops to scarify them to the gods. People arrived at the festival wearing the skins and heads of animals and discussing the relevant beliefs.

After the night of the festival, the next morning, they burnt the fire again that they finished last night. It was done for the protection of bad effects of the coming winter.

During the Roman rule over the Celtic region, some Roman traditions were also included in Samhain’s celebration.

The first thing added by Romans was to honor their dead people on 1st October and the 2nd thing was to honor the Roman spirit of trees and fruits, Pomona, by a sport with Apple. That’s why Apples are also used at Halloween events today.

The Christians during Roman Empire added their own colors to the Samhain festival. They honored their Saints and martyrs that’s why this day was also called All Saint’s Day.

This event got some other names such as All-hallows or All-hallowmas, meaning that All Saint’s Day. with the passage of time, it became Halloween finally.
